The “Thanksgiving List” 2011

by Pastor Al

Well it’s November already, and you know what that means. You get to read a few of my favorite things, like rain drops on roses and whiskers… (Sorry.)

Seriously, it’s time to drop the thankful bomb on my article. For those of you that are new to the scene, every November as we celebrate Thanksgiving I put together the things I’m thankful for in no real, particular order (with the exception of the first couple or so). So sit back and enjoy...

Salvation based on Christ and not me; the Gospel; a loving wife; my two sons; daddy’s girl; patience; community; crazy friends (you know who you are); lawn ornaments; encouragement; youth soccer (go Green Dragons and Red Dragons); morning drives with my daughter to preschool; backyard football (baseball, soccer and hockey); cell phone conversations with my daughter; family vacations; small groups; junior higher’s energy; Spotify; board games; the Apostle Paul’s church letters; accountability; Land of 1,000 Hills Coffee; the colors of Fall; senior highers; depth; clean houses; days of fun; Saturdays; camping; Winterfest; sponsors; the big white bus (Moby); Facebook (seriously, it is amazing to get in touch with high school and college friends); Apple Jacks; college students; summer interns; bad jokes; chili and cornbread; having friends over; Scripture; the life of my grandpa (miss you); free sample day; supportive parents; block parties; prayer meetings; Tim Keller; playing sports; family sing-a-longs; turkey dinners and the trimmings; quietness; drop in visits; people specifically praying for you; heartfelt greetings; honesty; tough questions; snow days; hugs; music; missionaries; youth baseball (go Tigers and Royals); language schools; amigos in Mexico (you know who you are); Kevin DeYoung; hiking; new things; preaching that challenges; forgiveness; love; guys that help me fix stuff (you definitely know who you are!); The Gospel Coalition; teachers; gardens; church staff; mountain biking; fresh cookies; service projects; junior campers; generosity; Fritz’s Frozen Yogurt; solid church elders; surprise parties; the funness, craziness and blessedness of being a dad; in-laws; sweatshirt weather; deep thoughts; fresh popcorn; brothers and sisters; inspiring stories; the church; the Church; Psalms; meeting up with old friends; road trips and you!

Thanks for taking the time to read. Now go off, grab a pen and some paper, or your computer, and start your list. Reflect, and, when you’re done, give God the glory that He rightly deserves. Spend some time praising the Lord for these things, people, places and most of all for salvation that is found in Christ alone!
